10 persons homeless following separate fires in Berbice
Two Corentyne families are contemplating their next move after a fire of unknown origin completely destroyed their homes just after midday.
The two buildings are located next to each other at Section A Goorpersaud Avenue No. 79 Village, Corriverton, and 23-year-old Stacy Johansan owns one while 33-year-old Scharazade Amin owns the other.
Ten persons are rendered homeless as a result of the fires. MTV News Update understands that the fire started at about 13:00h at the home of Johansan and quickly spread to the nearby house.
The neighbours formed a bucket brigade to assist in putting out the blaze, but their efforts were unsuccessful. The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) was called but could not save the two buildings.
However, they managed to prevent the fire from spreading to a third building. Investigations are ongoing.
