$12.4B for infrastructural works in Housing sector


The Ministry of Housing and Water was allocated a sum of $12.4 billion dollars by the Ministry of Finance in budget 2022 which was read to the National Assembly on Wednesday.


This money will pave way for a number of enhancement works in several communities country wide.

This include the upgrading of 45.5kilometres of roads in regions one, two, three, four, five, six, nine and 10.Part of this money will also be used for the construction of drains, structure and for the installation of street LED street lamps.


According to Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh the Government this year also aims to provide electricity on a wider frame.


“Government aims to complete the construction of the electricity distribution network in the existing housing areas and also to complete the procurement of electrical hardware for new housing areas”

he said


Meanwhile, $4.9 billion dollars has been allocated to continue improving the water supply to Guyanese, Once improved this will improve the access to potable water, enhance the quality of service and reduce non-revenue water.
