15 persons with disabilities complete advanced garment construction

Fifteen individuals living with disabilities in Region Four have completed an Advanced Garment Construction training programme organised by the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.

The initiative, held at the Mahaica Learning Lab, ran from October 01 to October 10, 2024, as part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to expand the Learning Lab for Persons with Disabilities.

Over the course of eight days, participants engaged in practical modules that covered a wide range of skills, including measuring and cutting fabric, sewing school uniforms such as skirts and ties, and attaching zippers and buttons to garments.

The training aimed to provide participants with valuable skills to enhance their employability and foster entrepreneurship.

Participants expressed their gratitude to the government and the Ministry for creating a platform that empowers persons with disabilities by equipping them with life skills. They commended the initiative for fostering inclusion and promoting self-sufficiency.

Those who aspire to start their own businesses will receive further support from the Ministry, in collaboration with the Small Business Bureau. This assistance includes help with developing business plans and applying for grants and loans.

For individuals with disabilities interested in learning life skills, the Ministry encourages them to reach out by calling +592259-3710 or emailing pwdlearninglab@mhsss.gov.gy.
