$2.7M bail for truck driver held with over nine kilos of ganja
Reaaz Bacchus, the 41-year-old truck driver who was nabbed with 9.25 kilograms of marijuana on Friday, has been released on $2.7 million bail.
Bacchus of New Amsterdam, Berbice, made an appearance before Magistrate Dylon Bess in the Diamond Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
He was charged with possession of 9.25 kilograms of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
As part of the bail condition, Bacchus is required to report to the Providence Police Station every Friday. The case was adjourned to July 24 for disclosure. Attorney-at-Law Bernard Da Silva represented the truck driver.
Bacchus was arrested on Friday in the vicinity of Bagotstown Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) after a search of the vehicle unearthed the marijuana.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the marijuana was found in a toolbox located under the lorry in two bulky shopping bags.
