A 23-year-old businessman of Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, and his 26-year-old ‘Personal Assistant,’ who is from ‘B’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown, have been arrested after a high-speed chase with the Police and a subsequent search of the motorcar they were in led to the discovery of an unlicenced firearm, magazine and matching rounds.

In a statement, the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said that a party of ranks who were on mobile patrol went to Agricola, East Bank Demerara (EBD), where they saw motorcar PYY 2470 driving at a fast rate of speed.

The ranks gave chase and intercepted the car at Albouys Street, Albouystown, Georgetown.

“A search was carried out inside the motor vehicle during which the police ranks found one .32 pistol and six live .32 rounds in a magazine behind the driver’s seat. Also, $311,700 in cash was found in a compartment in the vehicle near the steering wheel,” the statement said.

According to the CCU, the duo was told of the offences committed and escorted along with the firearm, ammunition, cash, and motorcar to the Brickdam Police Station.

The men were placed in custody. The CCU noted that the vehicle is registered to a businessman of High and Broad Street, Charlestown, and checks were made to locate him but were unsuccessful.
