2 women in custody over stabbing death of Sophia woman

Dead: Vanessa Anderson

Two women are in custody over the stabbing death of 22-year-old Vanessa Anderson of ‘B’ Field Dam, Sophia, Greater Georgetown.

Anderson was stabbed on Monday at about 18:30h at ‘B’ Field Dam, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, by a 20-year female and her 29-year-old sister, both of the same village.

The Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) reported that Anderson and the suspects, who were neighbours, had an ongoing dispute.

According to the CCU, the suspects usually accused the now-dead woman of calling the police to search their house.

“On the date and time mentioned, the victim was in front of her yard when she was approached by the two suspects, and an argument ensued,” the CCU said.

During the argument, the 20-year-old suspect collected a knife from her 29-year-old sister and dealt the victim two stabs - one to the upper left back and the other to the left shoulder.

After being stabbed, the victim stumbled into her yard and collapsed. She was picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Her body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME).

“The two suspects subsequently turned themselves in at the Turkeyen Police Station along with the knife used to stab the woman. They remain in custody as investigations continue,” the CCU concluded.
