A 22-year-old man was on Wednesday charged with the murder of 24-year-old Alston Seon of Bartica, Region Seven.

Kellorn Crighton, of Byderabo Road, Bartica, was hauled before Magistrate Crystal Lambert in the Bartica Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

The charge alleged that on May 8, 2022, at 3rd Street and 3rd Avenue, Bartica, he murdered Seon. He was remanded to prison until June 9, 2022.

Reports are that at about 01:30h on the day in question, Seon and four others were at the corner of 3rd Street and 3rd Avenue, Bartica, imbibing when the accused approached one of his friends and threatened to “buss his throat.”

As a result, the deceased intervened and reportedly asked Crighton to desist from what he was doing.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that the accused turned his attention on Seon and drew a knife from the waist of his pants, which he used to dealt him a stab to the right-side chest.

The miner fell to the ground and was picked up by his friend and taken to the Bartica Public Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A Post Mortem Examination (PME) conducted on Monday by Government Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh gave Seon’s cause of death as a stab wound to the heart.
