26 years behind bars for Linden man accused of rape

Ronaldo Chapman, known as ‘Packie,’ has been sentenced to 26 years in prison by Justice Jo-Ann Barlow in the High Court after being found guilty of two counts of rape.

Chapman, formerly of Half Mile Wismar, Linden, was convicted of raping a woman at gunpoint on March 14, 2023.

Reports indicate that on the day in question, Chapman confronted the victim and her boyfriend. During the confrontation, he struck the victim’s boyfriend and chased him through an alley, leaving the victim behind. It was then that Chapman assaulted the woman.

The convicted rapist, who had several pending matters before the court, committed the rape while evading law enforcement officials.

He was eventually arrested in March 2023 following an exchange of gunfire with police.

Chapman was also sentenced to 18 months in prison after being convicted in absentia for narcotics trafficking.
