4 arrested after breaking into cars at Space gym
Four men are in custody after breaking into cars at the Space gym located on Mandela Avenue on Thursday.
According to the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the incident occurred at about 20:00h and was committed on a 26-year-old male of Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD), a 21-year-old male of Campbellville, Georgetown and a 36-year-old male of Ogle, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The first victim was robbed of $275,000 in cash and a quantity of documents, while the second victim was robbed of a black Nike gym shoulder bag, one brown docker’s wallet valued at $8,000, two GBTI bank cards, and one bunch of keys.
On the other hand, the third victim was robbed of $80,000 in cash and one HP PRO Book valued at $315,000.
Reports are that the victims parked their motorcars in front of the gym, and at about 20:00h, they observed the back right side glass for their vehicles broken and the doors open.
Checks were made for their various items, and it was discovered missing. Investigators reviewed CCTV cameras of the gym, and it captured three men committing the act before escaping in awaiting Pitbull minibus.
The minibus bearing registration number BAC 6563 was intercepted at Leopold Street and was driven by a 37-year-old male with a 22-year-old male and a 29-year-old male as the occupants.
“A search was conducted, and $23,000 cash was found in one of the men’s pants pocket and $22,000 found on the person of the other,” the CCU said.
They were arrested, questioned, and admitted to breaking into the cars and stealing the items.
Further information provided by the men led Police to a property at D’Urban Street, Wortmanville, where a search was conducted, and the HP PRO Book was recovered along with a quantity of cellular phones and other items.
A fourth male, aged 39-year-old, was arrested at the address, and they were all placed in custody as the investigations continue.
