Abduction at Giftland: Cop charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, granted bail
Lance Corporal Delon Younge has been charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and was released on $40,000 bail.
Â
Younge was hauled before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded not guilty.
Â
The charge against Younge, who is attached to the Brickdam Police Station's Traffic Department, stems from the October 10, 2024, abduction and robbery of Kevin Fiedkou, a supervisor at a gold mining company.
Â
The recommendation to charge Younge was made by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The DPP advised that charges should be brought against two officers.
Â
However, according to Deputy Commissioner and Commander for Regional Police Division 4 ‘A,’ Simon McBean, the second officer will face charges under the Disciplinary Act for unauthorised use of a police vehicle.
Â
Younge was placed on $40,000 bail, and the matter was adjourned to February 25, 2025, for disclosure.
Â
The incident, which occurred in the Giftland Mall parking lot, was captured on surveillance footage.
Â
According to Fiedkou, who resides in Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) but hails from Linden, he was taking his vehicle to a nearby wash bay when he was approached by three men claiming to be police officers.
Â
The men did not present identification, and when Fiedkou initially resisted, he was forcibly removed from his vehicle, handcuffed, and placed in the backseat of their grey Toyota Premio. Two of the men were armed, and the vehicle was later identified as being registered to a police officer.
Â
During the abduction, the men allegedly demanded money from Fiedkou, who reportedly informed them he had cash at his residence from his family’s trucking business. The men took him to his home, where they allegedly forced him to hand over $9.5 million.
Â
Before leaving, the men disconnected and took his security camera’s recording device. The following day, they reportedly returned in a marked police vehicle, again demanding additional cash and questioning him about valuables.
Â
Realising the men were police officers, Fiedkou filed a formal complaint at the Providence Police Station. Investigators corroborated his account using CCTV footage from the area and nearby homes.
Â
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) subsequently issued a wanted bulletin for 29-year-old Okeemo Arak Brummel, identified as one of the three men involved.
