Accident on Tain Public Road claims life of teen cyclist
Raj Mohan, 18, was killed in an accident on the Tain Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, on Saturday night.
The accident, which occurred around 21:00h, involved a motor car, with registration number PAH 6222, driven by 19-year-old Samuel Subadar of Tain and an electric cycle ridden by Mohan.
Preliminary investigations by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) revealed that the motor car was travelling east along the southern lane of the public road at a reportedly high speed.
Subadar reported that he had engaged his right-turn signal to overtake another vehicle ahead of him.
During the overtaking manoeuvre, Mohan, who was reportedly on the northern edge of the roadway, allegedly veered across into the northern drive lane.
Subadar claimed he attempted to brake to avoid a collision, but despite his efforts, the car struck the e-cycle.
The collision caused Mohan to be thrown onto the roadway, sustaining severe injuries to his head and body. He was transported to the Port Mourant Public Hospital in an unconscious state, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending doctor.
Mohan’s body is at Ramoo’s Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination. The investigation into the fatal accident is ongoing.
