Alleged drunk driver crashes into pedestrian, RCA at Ogle
A 60-year-old pedestrian is now in a serious condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after an alleged drunk driver struck him down at Ogle, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The injured man has been identified as Harrylall Boodram of Lusignan Area 'B' Grass Field, ECD. The car bearing licence plate number PWW 3734 was driven by 38-year-old Shiva Mangra of Industry Crown Dam, ECD.
Reports are that Mangra was proceeding west along the southern carriageway at a fast rate when he lost control of the car and collided with Boodram, who was standing on the southern side of the road.
As a result of the collision, the 60-year-old man was flung a short distance away and sustained head injuries. On the other hand, the car collided with the RCA building and turned turtle.
The pedestrian was picked up in an unconscious state, placed into an Ambulance, and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted. His condition was listed as serious.
A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver, showing .118BAC and .117BAC, respectively. He is in custody, assisting with the investigation.
