Alleged killer of Toshao Ridley Joseph remanded to prison
Noah Beaton, 24, who Police said confessed to murdering Toshao Ridley Joseph earlier this week, has been remanded to prison.
Beaton, who resides at Bent Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, was hauled before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where the murder charge was read to him.
He was not required to enter a plea to the charge, which stated that on December 16, 2024, at Laluni Street, Queenstown, Georgetown, he murdered Joseph, the Toshao of Tasserene Village, Region Seven.
The alleged murderer was remanded to prison and will make another court appearance on January 31, 2025.
The body of Joseph, 37, was discovered on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, bearing 19 stab wounds.
The indigenous leader, who was in the city for the second executive meeting of the National Toshaos Conference (NTC), was staying at the Signature Inn Hotel, Queenstown, Georgetown.
The defendant reportedly told investigators that Joseph had sexually assaulted him some time ago. He reported that on the night in question, he asked Joseph to apologise, and he refused, leading to the gruesome murder.
Joseph, described as a dedicated leader, was preparing to graduate as valedictorian of the Health Ministry’s Nursing Assistant programme.
