Almost two months later, Lusignan Prison escapee remains at large
Nearly two months after his escape, Lusignan prisoner Jose Awad remains at large, evading capture despite intensified search efforts.
Awad, who escaped from the Lusignan Prison on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) while labouring at the snackette in the compound of the Cecil Kilkenny Training School, has managed to elude authorities since May 14.
He was serving a two-year sentence for break-and-enter and simple larceny when he made his escape. Prison authorities revealed that Awad was left unsupervised for a short period, during which he seized the opportunity to flee.
In a recent development, Awad was spotted in the vicinity of Parika, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), and his wife and mother-in-law were arrested after he made contact with them.
The Guyana Prison Service (GPS) has offered a $300,000 reward for information that may lead to the apprehension of the convicted prisoner.
Persons with any information can contact the nearest Police Station, or the office of the Director of Prisons, on telephone number 613-6616, or the Officer-in-Charge of the Lusignan Prison on telephone number 220-4289.
