Amelia’s Ward man arrested over fatal Linden hit-and-run accident

A 26-year-old man is in Police custody in connection with the accident on the Washer Pond Public Road in Mackenzie, Linden, on Sunday, which resulted in the death of a so far unidentified male pedestrian.


The tragic incident took place around 04:40h on Sunday and involved a motor car, PHH 2656, driven by a 26-year-old man from Cinderella City, Amelia’s Ward, Linden.


According to initial inquiries, the car was heading south along the eastern side of the Washer Pond Road when it struck the pedestrian.


Following the collision, the driver fled the scene, leaving the injured pedestrian on the roadway. The pedestrian was later discovered unconscious and transported to the Linden Hospital Complex.


Unfortunately, upon arrival, he was pronounced dead by a doctor. The body of the man has been taken to the Linden Senior Citizen Association Mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.


Acting on information, police officers arrested the 26-year-old driver at his residence. He and the vehicle, which displayed visible damage to the right front portion, were taken to the Mackenzie Police Station.


A breathalyser test conducted on the driver revealed alcohol levels of .94% and .95% micrograms, respectively, well above the legal limit. The driver remains in police custody as the investigation into the fatal hit-and-run accident continues.
