Updated: Sep 6, 2022
Anil Balram and Shanna Ali dominated the competition in the senior categories of the recently concluded ProArchers Guyana Archery Tournament.
Ten Archers walked away with gold, silver and bronze medals at the Enterprise Community Centre Ground last Saturday, September 3, 2022.
The Archery Competition was open to the general public with 17 archers competing across the adult, junior and cadet; male and female categories.
The competition lasted for about 6 hours, with each Archer shooting five ends of six arrows each.
In the Adult male category, Anil Balram walked away with the gold medal while second place went to Mehandra Chatargum and Shafeek Hiraman walked away with the bronze medal.
The Archers all shot for the coveted gold medals with Jairam Rampersaud and Yvette Barrow almost making it to the top three but had to settle at number four after Mehandra and Shafeek used the last few ends to make up for the shortfall.
The Adult Female category saw impressive shooting from Shanna Ali who won the gold medal. Tasleema Morgan and Jessica Callender came back to win the silver and bronze, respectively.
The battle amongst the Cadets in the first two ends saw Hitesh almost copping the Gold but Samanyu went ahead and got consistent bulleyes and took away the Gold easily after the fourth end.
There were no competitors against Ryidwan Mahase in the Junior Category and therefore, he easily got away with the gold medal after shooting his five ends.
Certified Level 1 Archery Coach Narda Mohamed – Mangra was impressed with the archers’ performance, “Trained archers by ProArchers Guyana had the upper edge due to their constant training and were able to cop all the gold and silver medals. However, some outstanding perfromances from other archery clubs and members of the public, they were able to secure the brinze medals.
“ProArchers is currently registering new persons who would like to train in archery as there will be many upcoming tournaments to participate in.”
The winners were presented with their prizes by Suresh Singh, Director of Youth, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and Bishram Kuppen, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour.
