The deceased is a mother of two and she resided at Haslington, East Coast Demerara.

A team from News Update was at the scene of the incident where we spoke to Dehaarte’s sister Emily Clarke. She had described the 48-year-old as ‘loving’ and ‘caring’.

According to Clarke, her sister was a licensed firearm holder.

When asked what could have triggered the suicide, Clarke said her sister has been complaining of an alleged ‘affair’ her husband was having.

“Well, I just called my relatives…and they told me that she complained about some affair that the husband had,” she explained.

Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn was at the crime scene and he has described the incident as ‘unfortunate’. “There has happened what can only be described as an unfortunate incident, it’s a matter for the police to investigate and they’re doing so,” Benn stated.

Investigations are ongoing.
