A 39-year-old man from Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara (WCD), was remanded to prison for allegedly trafficking $12 million worth of cocaine.

Sahadeo Prasad was arraigned before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul in the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.

The West Coast man denied the charge, which stated that on February 8, 2024, on the Cornelia Ida Public Road, he had 11.4 kilograms of cocaine in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

After listening to the facts of the case, the Magistrate remanded Prasad to prison until March 7, when he will make another court appearance.

It was reported that on the day in question, ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) conducted an intelligence-led operation on the Cornelia Ida Public Road.

During the operation, a motor vehicle was intercepted, and a search yielded 10 parcels of cocaine wrapped in transparent plastic. Prasad, who was the driver of the vehicle, was arrested and charged.
