Arrest of lawyer: ORP completes investigation, file with DPP
The Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) has completed its investigation into the unlawful arrest of Attorney-at-Law Tameika Clarke, who was arrested by ranks of the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) for advising her client to remain silent.
The Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), on Friday, revealed that the file is currently with the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Shalimar Ali-Hack.
“The OPR investigation has concluded, and the file is now with the DPP,” the CCU noted.
A planned protest is slated for noon today outside of SOCU’s Camp Street office.
Last week, Clarke was arrested by SOCU and subsequently released after she advised her client to remain silent, which is a part of his rights.
Following the arrest of Clarke, a number of bodies condemned SOCU’s actions while calling for those involved to be held accountable.
