Bandits rob Johnny P’s Supermarket of undisclosed sum of cash
The Johnny P’s Supermarket, located at Lot 12 Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt Gardens, Georgetown, was robbed on Tuesday evening by three men, one of whom was armed with a handgun of an undisclosed sum of cash and other valuables.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the robbery took place at about 20:00h. According to the police, the robbers made off with an undisclosed amount of Guyanese currency, a gold chain, and a Samsung cell phone valued at $45,000.
A 45-year-old female supervisor who was closing the supermarket reported that the robbers entered through an open door. The armed assailant struck her in the face with the handgun, causing a minor laceration, before taking the gold chain from around her neck.
Meanwhile, the other two accomplices relieved a 51-year-old labourer, who lives in the upper flat of the building, of his cell phone.
The robbers then proceeded to the cash register, where they took an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene. Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage as part of the ongoing investigation.
