Bandits rob ‘Nice To You’ Boutique on Regent Street; employee shot in leg

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has launched an investigation into an armed robbery that occurred around 13:25h on Boxing Day at the ‘Nice To You’ Boutique on Regent Street, Georgetown.

The incident left one employee injured and an undisclosed amount of cash stolen. The victim, 50-year-old Zhenz Sh Fa, a Chinese businessman, was at his boutique when two armed suspects, described as males of African descent, targeted the establishment.

According to the law enforcement agency, the suspects arrived on a red and black motorcycle at the boutique. The pillion rider, armed with a handgun, confronted a security guard stationed at the door.

The suspects searched the guard and confiscated a “toy gun” he had concealed in his waistband.

The suspects then entered the boutique, ordering customers and staff to remain still. One suspect rifled through the cashier’s drawer and stole the day’s sales.

During the robbery, an employee, identified as Zhao Peiming, a Chinese national working as a labourer, attempted to intervene. In response, the armed suspect discharged a round, striking Zhao in his right thigh.

The suspects fled the scene on their motorcycle, heading east. Zhao was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment. His condition is reported as stable.

Police recovered a 9mm spent shell at the scene and are reviewing footage from multiple CCTV cameras in the area.
