Bartica miner charged with ganja possession granted bail
Frankie Speede, a 33-year-old miner from 5 Miles Housing Scheme, Bartica, Region Seven, has been released on $60,000 bail after he was slapped with a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Speede, who operates a shop on Fifth Avenue, Bartica, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he was hauled before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed in the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
After he was granted $60,000 bail, the case was adjourned to January 02, 2025, for disclosure.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), on December 03, 2024, ranks conducted a search at Speede’s shop.
After identifying themselves, the police requested permission to search the premises for illegal substances, firearms, or ammunition - a request that was granted by Speede.
During the search, the police found a quantity of marijuana. The total weight of the substance was 92 grams. Speede was informed of the offence, cautioned, and subsequently arrested.
