In Monday’s final of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Female Inter-county 50-over competition the Berbice female team won the trophy by seven-wickets in a rain-affected match.

The Berbice Cricket Board’s female team continues to collect trophies on the inter-county stage, having recently won the T20 tournament.

This 50-over tournament concluded on Monday May 23, when Demerara’s female county team challenged Berbice for the coveted trophy.

Demerara batted first to post 96 for 9 from 26.2 overs. Due to rainy weather conditions, a revised target was set for the Berbice team to chase.

This was when the Berbice women earned their seven-wicket victory, finishing the match on 93 for 3 from 2.3 overs.

Shabika Gajnabi was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament. She earned a total of 173 runs and five wickets to assist her team to victory.

Gajnabi was also named player of the match when she top scored with 37 not out.

Berbician Katana Mentores was awarded for making the most runs after scoring 198.

Heema Singh of Demerara took the most wickets in the tournament with 7.

The Inter-county tournament is a tool for selection of National women’s cricket team to represent Guyana in the upcoming Cricket West Indies’ CG Insurance Super50 Cup and T20 Blaze.

These tournaments are set to be hosted at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, Everest Cricket Club, Georgetown and Enmore Cricket Ground from June 7 to 17. The T20 event will take place from June 19 to 25.

Barbados are defending champions in both tournaments.
