Body of fisherman struck by lightning found

Dead: Hemnarine Chandradeo

The body of 28-year-old Hemnarine Chandradeo, which was allegedly struck by lightning while fishing, was found on Tuesday at the Dantzig Seawall at Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

The Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) reported that the discovery was made by an Engineer of the Ministry of Public Works who was inspecting the location.

Chandradeo was found clad in brief with the names Emily and Faro written on his left hand and Kimberly on his chest. His body was identified by his cousin Kamal Bharrat.

Due to the state of decomposition, the CCU said Police could not determine whether there were any marks of violence.

MTV News Update previously reported that Chandradeo and his brother, and another fisherman left the Albion Landing Site at about 11:00h on Thursday last in a fishing vessel.

However, everyone returned to shore except Chandradeo. According to the crew members, while fishing during the heavy downpours, lightning struck the 28-year-old fisherman, who fell overboard, and efforts to pull him to safety proved futile.
