Body of woman found at Merriman’s Mall

The body of a woman, known only as ‘Desiree,’ was discovered on Thursday in a guard hut at Merriman's Mall, Georgetown.

Desiree, who had no fixed place of abode, was found lying on a mattress in the hut, located between North Road and Church Road on Shiv Chanderpaul Drive.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the woman had been living in the hut with Troy Williams, an unemployed male, for the past three years.

Williams reported that at around 8:30h, he noticed that Desiree was motionless. An ambulance was summoned and transported her to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by a doctor at 9:15h.

No visible signs of violence were found on the body, the Police said, which has been taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for identification and a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. Investigations are ongoing.
