Body suspected to be 'Reonol' found; Driver of motorcar involved in accident in police custody

After several hours of searching in Coldingen, East Coast Demerara, police investigators have found a decomposed body in a trench suspected to be that of 50 year old Reonol Williams. This was confirmed by Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum who said, “We cannot confirm that a 100% certainty until we do the DNA tests…but its suspected to be that of Mr. Reonol Williams

Police said Williams was struck down in the wee hours on May 23 by a motor vehicle as he was exiting a taxi. An eyewitness had informed the police that the vehicle's driver offered to take Reonol to a hospital but never did. Driver of the motor vehicle is currently in custody assisting the police with their investigation.


According to reports, the driver initially informed the police that he was in the interior when the accident occurred and his cousin he only referred to as ‘Boy’ stole his car from his yard.

“The most I can tell you is that the person who is in custody, that’s the owner for the motorcar. He’s currently assisting the police with the investigation and he also told the police to go in that area.

The 50-year-old man, who hails from Region 8, is a father of two and has eight siblings. Citizens held several vigils over the past few days with placards calling for justice for Williams.
