Britton wins Silver Bowl table tennis title in T&T

Guyanese Shemar Britton triumphed in Trinidad and Tobago over the weekend, winning the ICWI Table Tennis Silver Bowl.


Six Guyanese table tennis players competed in the recently concluded ICWI Table Tennis Silver Bowl, hosted by the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago.


These players are -Thuraia Thomas, Shemar Britton, Jonathan Van Lange, Niran Bissu, Krystian Sahadeo, and Nigel Bryan.


The best performance for Guyana came from Shemar Britton, who stormed to victory, defeating Tyrese Knight in the singles final. En route to the final, Britton defeated national teammate Jonathan Van Lange who came third in the overall tournament.


At the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Tacarigua on Sunday – Britton defeated Barbadian Tyrese Knight in the men’s singles final 11-8, 11-9, 8-11, 11-6.


In the semi-finals, Britton outlasted his national doubles winning partner Jonathan Van Lange 11-5, 12-10, 11-5. The duo are just coming off tense competition from the recently concluded Commonwealth Games.


Nigel Bryan and Niran Bissu were impressive in the tournament, making it all the way to the round of 16. Notably, this was a return to the sport for Nigel Bryan, who has been focusing on his professional career.


Thuraia Thomas, also fresh from the commonwealth games, made it to the quarterfinals of the Women’s singles.
