Brothers killed during confrontation at Parika
Crime sleuths in Region Three have launched an investigation into a double-murder that occurred at Lot 4 ‘A’ St. Lawrence, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) on Wednesday.
Dead are Marvin Joseph, 17, and his brother, Ellis Joseph, 30, both of Parika Façade.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that at about 15:00h, Ryan Fredericks, a 25-year-old miner from Pomeroon and the nephew of Annette Miguel, arrived at his aunt’s residence by minibus.
As he walked through the yard, he noticed the Joseph brothers passing by on a motor canter heading north. Suddenly, the brothers disembarked, armed with cutlasses, and attacked Fredericks. According to reports, the brothers began chopping Fredericks, who fled into the yard and towards the house with the assailants in pursuit.
Fredericks attempted to escape by jumping through a glass louvre window on the lower flat of the house. During the confrontation, it is believed that the brothers inadvertently inflicted injuries on each other while attacking Fredericks, who eventually collapsed inside the house.
Marvin managed to run out of the yard but collapsed on a wooden bridge, losing consciousness. His brother Ellis was found bleeding profusely and was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital by a passerby but succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment.
Fredericks was also transported to the Leonora Cottage Hospital by police ranks. He sustained a severe chop wound to his right side back and other minor cuts. His condition is currently listed as serious.
Upon examination, Marvin’s body was found with an incised wound to the abdomen, exposing his intestines. Ellis had two incised wounds on his abdomen.
Both bodies have been taken to Ezekiel Funeral Home for storage, pending post-mortem examinations.
