Bus conductor identified as victim in Tuschen hit-and-run
The pedestrian killed in the Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) hit-and-run accident early Sunday morning has been identified as Javier Antonio Joe, a bus conductor, according to reliable sources.
The fatal accident occurred at about 02:45h, along the Tuschen Public Road. Police reports indicate that Joe, a male of Amerindian descent, was struck by a speeding motorcar while attempting to cross the road from south to north.
The accident involved motorcar PSS 8190, whose driver remains unidentified, and motorcar PRR 7218, which was parked on the southern side of the road.
According to the police, Joe had been standing with a group of people on the southern side before stepping into the path of the speeding vehicle PSS 8190, which was travelling west.
The impact of the collision flung Joe into the air, causing him to land on the rear of motorcar PRR 7218, which was parked nearby.
The driver of PSS 8190 initially stopped and returned to the scene but fled in an eastern direction after a group of people approached.
Joe was quickly transported to the Leonora Cottage Hospital in a police vehicle but was pronounced dead on arrival.
