Businessman arrested over fatal shooting of suspected thief

A 52-year-old businessman, Pooran Singh, known as ‘Navin,’ has been taken into custody following the fatal shooting of a suspected thief early Sunday morning.

Singh reported to the Vigilance Police Station at approximately 2:30h on December 1, 2024, claiming he discharged his licenced 9mm pistol after witnessing a man allegedly removing Heineken beers from a storage area on his property.

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were dispatched to the scene and pronounced the man, whose identity and address remain unknown, dead.

The body was later transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital. Singh was immediately arrested, and his firearm was lodged as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities confirmed that the businessman remains in custody as the case is being reviewed and awaits legal advice.
