A 38-year-old businessman was arrested early Sunday morning after being found in possession of an illegal firearm outside a popular sports bar and nightclub in Campbellville, Georgetown.

Acting on information, a police team led by an Assistant Superintendent conducted an operation around 03:15h on Middleton Street. Upon arrival, officers observed a group of individuals gathered on the roadway near the establishment.

Jason Carmichael, a businessman from Lamaha Park, was among the group and was found carrying a .38 revolver with a spent shell in its chamber. Police noted that the firearm’s serial number had been filed off.

When questioned about his possession of the weapon, Carmichael, a Rastafarian, reportedly told officers, “I got the firearm from another Rastaman.”

The businessman was informed of the offence, cautioned, and subsequently arrested. He was taken to the Kitty Police Station along with the firearm and spent shell.

The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
