Businessman nabbed with 6.3 grams of cocaine
A 37-year-old businessman is in Police custody after he was allegedly nabbed with a quantity of cocaine in his pants pocket at the Merriman's Mall located at Bourda Market.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said a cordon and search operation was conducted between 15:30h and 17:00h.
During the operation, several individuals were stopped and searched, including a number of stalls in the busy commercial district.
Police officers on the scene searched Yancy Garraway and discovered a transparent plastic bag containing cocaine. Alongside the narcotics, officers also found $206,200 and US$5 in his pants pocket.
Following the discovery, Garraway was informed of the offence, cautioned, and arrested. He was then taken to the Brickdam Police Station, where the cocaine was weighed in his presence and amounted to 6.3 grams.
Police are continuing the investigations as Garraway remains in custody, pending charges.
