Businessman pleads not guilty to murder of boy, 17

A mixed 12-member jury, was today impaneled before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow at the Suddie High Court for the trial of businessman Junior France, who fatally shot gold miner Dane Jerrick at Puruni Landing, Mazaruni River.


France, called “Bora,” denied that on May 17, 2020, in the county of Essequibo, he murdered Jerrick. His trial is slated to commence on March 3, 2022.


He was represented by attorneys-at-law Nigel Hughes, and Ronald Daniels while the State was represented by prosecutor Tiffini Lyken.


Reports are that on the day in question, Jerrick was shot in his lower back allegedly by France, who is a licensed firearm holder.


It was reported that France reportedly told police that Jerrick was lingering in front of his shop, which is located at Puruni Landing, and he discharged several rounds in his direction, but one struck him.


The businesswoman was arrested, and his firearm was also lodged.
