Businessman, security officer in custody for theft of solar panels from Two Miles Primary Sch

Police apprehended a businessman and a 27-year-old security officer on Monday for allegedly stealing solar panels from the Two Miles Primary School.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the simple larceny occurred between April 19 and 22, 2024.

Reports are that the school recently underwent repairs, during which the solar panels were replaced. Consequently, the old panels were stored beneath the school’s stairway under the watchful eye of a 24-hour security service.

However, on April 22, 2024, the school’s Canteen Manager, Melanie Gardener, observed the four panels missing while cleaning in the vicinity where they were kept.

She promptly alerted the Head Teacher, who swiftly reported the matter to law enforcement.

Acting swiftly on information received, the police visited the residence of a Bartica-based businessman, who provided crucial details.

Subsequently, the security guard was located, questioned, and admitted to the theft.

Further interrogation of the businessman led to the discovery of two panels stored in a vehicle and another two retrieved from the rooftop of his building. The duo is in custody as the investigation continues.
