Cane cutter dies by suicide after stabbing ex-girlfriend

A 21-year-old cook was on Saturday stabbed by her ex-boyfriend, who later succumbed at a hospital hours after ingesting poison.

The dead man has been identified as Adrian Persaud, 26, a cane cutter of Lot 4 Bennet Dam, Rosignol.

MTV News Update understands that the woman and Persaud have been living home for over a year. However, they separated about one week ago due to domestic issues.

Reports are that at about 08:20h on the day in question, the woman was a passenger in a motor car, which stopped at the Sheriff Service Station for fuel when she saw Persaud suddenly approach her.

Persaud, who was armed with a knife, dealt the woman several stabs and made good his escape.

The 21-year-old cook was escorted to Fort Wellington Public Hospital, where she was examined by a doctor and transferred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital. She is presently receiving further treatment, and her condition is stated as critical.

She received stab wounds to her right-side foot, two on her right-side breast, one to her lower thigh, and one on her right arm.

Police acting on information, went to the man’s home, where he was seen lying on the southern side of his yard, vomiting a greenish substance.

A white bottle marked “gramoxone,” containing a green liquid substance, was found about 30 feet away from him. He was escorted to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital, where he was seen by a doctor and was admitted. However, he died just after midnight.
