'Cheaper access' to Tourism Licence as GTA launches tourism business licensing portal

The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) on Monday afternoon launched the Tourism Business Licensing Portal in the presence of several tourism stakeholders at the Herdmanston Lodge.

The tourism business licensing portal is an online platform aimed at making the access to tourism licenses easier.

Previously, persons who wanted a tourism business license had to visit the Guyana Tourism Authority’s office at the Sophia Exhibition Centre but now this license can be accessed online.

Delivering the feature address was GTA’s Director, Kamrul Baksh who emphasised that it is important for tour guides, hotels, resorts, etc. to get licensed as it ensures the quality, sustainability, and safety of persons utilising their services.

As per the Tourism Act, it is mandatory for businesses within the tourism sector to

get licensed.

“You can make the payment online. We have partnered with Mobile Money

Guyana so that you don’t have to come into the office to make the payment.

Particularly for the far areas, the hinterland regions just picture somebody

coming from Karanambu Lodge or somewhere else in the Rupununi

incurring exorbitant cost to transact business with government so this

process will drastically reduce the cost of doing business,” the GTA Director

said as he referenced how the cost for the business would be reduced.

The license would be issued annually, and tourism business costs vary. Persons who wish to access this service can visit https://guyanatourism.com/, where they would be asked to fill up an application form.
