CITY COMMUNITIES EXPOSED TO FIRE SAFETY MECHANISMS

The Guyana Fire Service as part of its Fire Prevent Prevention Month activities held an outreach in two communities on Wednesday. This is the second outreach since Fire Prevention Month began earlier in October.

Fire Prevent Week 2022 is being observed under the theme, “Working Together As One Guyana to Prevent Fires”'. According to Fire Prevention Officer Sheldon Sauns explained that a major part of the observance is educating households about ways in which they can prevent fires.

Sauns further explained that the outreach targeted no specific community, but was geared at giving residents an opportunity to learn more about ways they can protect and exit their homes safely in the event of a fire.

“The reason for us being here today is to further extend our drive about specific measures and fire safety. This outreach is the second of its kind.” Sauns stated.

Sauns noted that during the last outreach, residents were taught how to use several fire prevention mechanisms including fire extinguishers. He noted that while the service cannot eradicate fires, it will do its part to save lives.
