Close to 12,000 house lots have been distributed to families from Regions Two, Three, Four, Five, Six ,and Ten in close to two years. This is in keeping with the Government’s promise to deliver 50,000 house lots within their first five years in office.

This is according to the Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal who was speaking at the opening ceremony of the International Building Expo 2022.

Over 1200 units are under construction and already 300 units have been delivered to families for occupancy.

“We have distributed and prepared over 3000 titles and transports. We have allocated lands even for commercial and industrial purposes and during this event, we will be allocating a further 5000 house lots in new blocks in Plantation Great Diamond, Grove ..[…] Enterprise on the East Coast,” the Housing Minister said.

Over the next three years, $30 billion will be expended on the construction of 1500 housing units in La Bonne Intention (LBI), 1000 in Leonora and 1000 in Wales.

Housing units will also be constructed in Silica City, Minister Croal added.

The housing sector will also see an investment of more than $100 billion for regional infrastructure and building works in the 10 administrative regions.

Croal explained, “These works will begin to close the development gap between the coast and hinterlands and interject new life into other areas."

Additionally, $20B will be injected for the expansion of major highways such as the Aubrey Barker Road to Enmore and Eccles Landfill and Schoonard to Crane.

According to Croal, while all of these are government investments, there are several private sector led projects in the pipeline.

The international three day expo is being held under the theme “A new frontier for building a One Guyana.”
