Construction worker busted with ganja in camouflage haversack on Helena Public Road

A 27-year-old construction worker was taken into Police custody on Monday after he was nabbed with a quantity of marijuana on the Helena Public Road at Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD).


The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that between 16:00h and 17:20h on the day in question, ranks conducted a roadblock exercise on the Helena Public Road and stopped several vehicles.


A minibus bearing registration number BAC 6035 was stopped, and a passenger was observed acting in a suspicious manner, holding a camouflage haversack.


The passenger, who was identified as a 27-year-old construction worker of Marshal Street, Annandale, and the haversack were searched, during which the marijuana was unearthed.


He was told of the offence, cautioned, arrested, and escorted along with the bag to the Mahaica Police Station, where the marijuana was weighed in his presence and amounted to 3,563 grams.
