Construction worker nabbed with over 800 grams of ganja
A police intel-led operation at Haslington New Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Friday resulted in the arrest of a 41-year-old construction worker who had over 800 grams of marijuana in his possession.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that ranks, acting on information received, went to Lot 91 Haslington New Housing Scheme at about 18:20h and observed the construction worker standing in front of the yard. At the time, he was holding a bulky plastic bag.
When he saw the ranks, the man ran into the yard and attempted to escape. However, police gave chase, and he was apprehended with the plastic bag in his hand.
According to the GPF, the bag contained a compressed parcel and ten small transparent ziplock bags containing leaves, seeds, and stems – all of which are marijuana.
The 41-year-old man was told of the offence committed and cautioned. A further search was conducted on his home and in the yard, but no additional narcotic was found, the Police Force added.
He was arrested and escorted to the Cove and John Police Station, where the marijuana was weighed in his presence and amounted to 895 grams. He is expected to be charged soon.
