Cop to stand trial for murder of Quindon Bacchus

L-R: Quindon Bacchus and Interdicted Lance Corporal Kristoff DeNobrega

Interdicted Lance Corporal Kristoff DeNobrega has been committed to stand trial in the High Court for the 2022 murder of Quindon Bacchus.

Magistrate Fabayo Azore ordered the committal in the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.

The Magistrate ruled that a prima facie case had been made against DeNobrega for him to be tried at the High Court. He will go on trial at the next practical sitting of the Demerara Assizes.

DeNobrega, 24, of Canal Dam, Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was charged with the murder of Bacchus.

Bacchus, a father of one, was shot on June 10 during what the Guyana Police Force (GPF) claimed was an intelligence-led operation at Haslington New Scheme.

According to the Police, a 22-year-old construction worker who provided “certain information” led ranks to Bacchus, who allegedly possessed a firearm and intended to sell it to one of the ranks.

While handing the firearm to the rank, the GPF claimed that Bacchus opened gunfire on DeNobrega, who shot him in the process.

De Nobrega, along with Lance Corporal Thurston Simon and Sergeant Dameion McLennon, were charged over the shooting death of Bacchus. McLennon and Simon were charged with attempting to obstruct the course of justice.
