Corentyne labourer remanded for killing wife
The Corentyne labourer who is accused of chopping his wife to the leg and leaving to die in their home between Sunday midnight and Monday morning was remanded to prison when he appeared in the Whim Magistrates Court earlier today.
35 year old Mahendra Paltoo of Bloomfield Village Corentyne was not required to plead to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Renita Singh.
The court that on Monday, November 07, 2022, at Bloomfield Village on the Corentyne, he murdered his wife, 30-year-old Oma Devi Virasamy.
During the initial stage of the investigation, Paltoo had told investigators that at about 19:00 hours while the deceased was making up the bed for their baby, she slipped and fell on a cutlass which was between two mattresses in their bedroom causing her to receive a cut to her ankle.
