Cyclist dies hours after La Grange Public Road collision

A 56-year-old cyclist, Shaman Ally, tragically lost his life following a collision with a motor car on the La Grange Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD), on Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 14:45h and involved motorcar PMM 9424, driven by 34-year-old Kelvin Hodge.

Preliminary investigations by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) revealed that Ally, a resident of Lot 39 Independence Street, La Grange, was riding his bicycle south along the eastern side of the road.

Reports suggest that Ally was not holding on to the handlebars when he lost control of the cycle, causing him to swerve westward and collide with the left-side front fender of Hodge’s vehicle, which was traveling in the same direction.

As a result of the impact, Ally was thrown onto the road, suffering severe injuries to his head and body.

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) arrived at the scene and transported him in a semi-conscious state to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

Despite efforts by medical staff, Ally succumbed to his injuries at approximately 17:30h.

Ally’s body has been taken to the Ezekiel Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, Hodge has been taken into police custody as investigations into the fatal collision continue.
