‘Devil’ gets life sentence for raping girl with down's syndrome
Rondell Chappel, 36, who was found guilty in absentia last month for raping a girl with down's syndrome, was handed a life sentence on Monday afternoon.
Chappel, called ‘Devil’ of Section ‘A’ Sophia, Greater Georgetown, had his sentence imposed by High Court Judge Sandil Kissoon.
Last month, a 12-member jury found Chappel guilty of raping the 15-year-old girl between September 5 and 6, 2020. However, he has absconded his trial at the Sexual Offences Court.
Reports are that the girl was asleep alone when Chappel broke into the house under the influence of drugs and alcohol and raped her at knifepoint.
Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of Chappel is asked to contact the Police on telephone numbers: 225-6940, 225-8196, 226-7476, 225-2317, 227-1149, or the nearest Police station.
