Elizabeth Nabaro, a 32-year-old Venezuelan doctor attached to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, is hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital with severe head injuries following an accident on Thursday morning.
MTV News Update understands that the accident occurred at around 07:50h on the Forth Canje Public Road, Berbice.
Reports are that Nabaro was crossing the road heading to the doctor’s quarters when she was struck by motor lorry GAG 9366, driven by Orin Archibald, 35.
Archibald claimed that while passing the pedestrian crossing near the hospital at a normal rate of speed, Nabaro crossed the road from north to south when the tray of the lorry collided with her.
As a result of the collision, the pedestrian fell onto the roadway and sustained head injuries.
She was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment.
