Driver flees after hitting pedestrian, 29, on John’s Public Road
A 29-year-old pedestrian was killed on Sunday night after he was struck by an alleged speeding motor pickup on John’s Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
The victim, Deonarine Budram, a labourer from Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice, was walking east along the northern side of John’s Public Road when the accident occurred at about 21:30h.
A police report stated that motor pickup GNN 4363, which an unidentified individual drove, was proceeding west at an alleged high speed on the southern side of the road when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
As a result, the driver collided with Budram. The impact caused Budram to be thrown westward onto the roadway, where he subsequently collided with a bus shed on the northern side.
Following the collision, the pickup veered into a nearby drain, and the driver fled the scene immediately.
A public-spirited citizen found Budram unconscious and transported him to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Budram’s body is currently at Ramoo Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the driver involved in the hit-and-run.
