Driver in deadly Blankenburg hit-and-run arrested, tell Police he “panicked”
The driver involved in the deadly hit-and-run accident on the Blankenburg Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD), which claimed the life of 42-year-old Azaad Khan, was arrested.
The driver has been identified as 28-year-old Vickey Balgobin of Area ‘G’ De Willem, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
According to the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), Balgobin admitted that he was the vehicle’s driver at the time of the accident, and he fled the scene because he ‘panicked.’
MTV News Update reported that a black Allion motor car was proceeding west along the southern side of the public road at a fast rate of speed and collided with Khan, who was walking across the roadway.
As a result of the collision, the pedestrian fell on the southern side of the road, and his left leg “broke off” and landed in a yard four houses away.
Khan’s motionless body was picked up by members of the Community Policing Group (CPG) and the Police and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Khan was positively identified by his relatives, and his body was escorted to Ezekiel Mortuary, awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME). The investigation is ongoing.
