Driver, passenger arrested after Police discover unlicensed firearm, ammo

An early morning intelligence-led operation on the Albion Public Road on Tuesday led to the discovery of an unlicensed firearm and seven rounds of matching ammunition.


The operation, which occurred in front of the Albion Police Station around 06:20h, saw a Toyota Premio motor car being stopped and searched.


The motor vehicle, bearing registration number HD 2128, was driven at the time by Selwyne Gray, a taxi driver from Leeds Village, Corentyne Berbice.

Otis Victor, a farmer from Nurney Village, Corentyne Berbice, was the lone passenger in the vehicle.


During the search, officers found a black plastic bag in the right-side driver’s door containing a .38 revolver and seven live rounds of matching ammunition.


Both suspects were promptly arrested and taken into custody at the Albion Police Station. The firearm and ammunition were lodged at the station, and the vehicle was impounded.
