Duo, who provided fake robbery information to Police jailed
Two men who provided false information to the Police were sentenced to six months behind bars.
Those charged are Vijay Deochand, a 35-year-old mason of Lot 950 Block ‘Y’ Section ‘C’ Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD), and Lincoln Scott, a 25-year-old labourer, also of Section ‘C’ Golden Grove.
The duo was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty. As a result, they were sentenced to six months imprisonment.
MTV News Update previously reported that the duo went to the Grove Police Station and reported that they were robbed by six men on bicycles, who were armed with knives at Friendship, EBD.
The mason told investigators that he was robbed of $125,000 cash, property of his employer, and his Samsung A3 cellphone, valued at $45,000.
The 25-year-old labourer, on the other hand, reported that he was robbed of his cellphone valued at $32,000, a wallet with $1000 in cash, and other personal documents.
The duo was interviewed by ranks of the Grove Police station and CID, during which it was suspected their report was false.
As a result, a search was carried out on their respective haversacks, during which the items the men claimed they were robbed of were found.
