East Canje fire leaves two homeless
The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) is working collaboratively with the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to ascertain the cause of a fire that left two Sheet Anchor, East Canje, Berbice teenagers homeless on Saturday.
19-year-old Keiasha Reid of Lot 42 Semple Street, Sheet Anchor, Village, told reporters that she was not at home when she received a call at about 7:30h informing her that her home was on fire.
She said that at the time, she was visiting a relative in Georgetown. Reid, who lost her mother three years ago, noted that they lost everything in the fire.
"We had everything in that house. We na had a fridge but everything else. The house ain't had electricity but we had TV, gas stove, everything."
The teenager revealed that she suspects foul play since the padlock to the house was tampered with as well as the gate to the yard.
"We had alot of valuables, chain, and so and all our documents destroyed."
She is pleading with the general public for any assistance in order to rebuild their livelihood since they do not have any other relatives to provide assistance.
